Rant: Honest to God, the local news is now reporting on things they saw posted on some of the locally oriented Facebook groups like "Elmira is Crazy"?

They went to journalism school and that's what they're doing? And someone out there gives me crap for what I do here? Give me a break.

Not to mention these College educated “journalists” can’t pronounce words like mischief.

Rave: I want to give a shout out to a cashier by the name Sue at Tops in Southport. She does her job well and always talks with customers. She really cares about people going through her line and has even helped me save a little money now and then.

I don't know if she has any part in training new hires there, but she should.

Rant (of course) ! Everyone driving in the lovely City of Elmira has experience with ducking and dodging the increasing numbers of E-bikes and scooters ! You know the ones driven ( term used loosely) mostly by bridge trolls and the seemingly entitled denizens, oops … citizens. Swerving in and out of traffic usually wearing a black hoodie and no helmet , they just seem to be in a hurry to get somewhere I dunno where , next fix maybe I don’t really give a rats ass ! What I care about is having to deviate from my path of travel in order not to hit them lest I get a S***stain on my legal to be driven on the road motorized vehicle ! Last night on Lake rd one such upstanding , productive citizens traveling in the same direction as myself was verifying my thoughts on the subject . Texting , smoking , no hands on the “ handle “ bars , completely dressed in black with night time coming on , not a care in the World weaving in and out of about ten foot of my lane . As the passenger the temptation was to put my window down and give the dumbass a mild yet purposeful shove ( yes we were that close ) as my wife was trying not to cause an accident , for which I am sure she would have been found at fault of course , with oncoming vehicles ! This was the third time in as many trips to town this crap has happened , the traffic swerving and potential accident causing has to stop ! But it won’t…

I am so tired of product shrinkage that we’re not supposed to notice. The grocery store had Thomas’ English Muffins on sale, buy one and get two free. The muffin was so thin it was difficult to cut in half and often crumbled. You’d need to put two together to get the size they used to be, it’s ridiculous. Even at that sale price it wasn’t worth the price with the crumbling waste.

Ranti(ish): I really need to get rid of social media sooner than later.

I’m getting pictures of puppies from animal shelters as far away as Broome County.

Me too. On purpose really

Rant: the Gravite men’s cologne commercial asking what is a man with women answering then they smell the cologne. The first commercial where the women are blind folded and the guy slowly walks around them was good. I’d like to smell the cologne on him myself 😁

Also the Native body commercial with actors dressed as Greek gods. The company overpaid that marketing firm.

Rant ; The Gravite commercial where the women sniff the bottle saying “This is what a gentleman smells like “ … give me a Fricken break !

Two raves for local businesses:

Rave: Pine Valley Farms has the nicest Christmas trees and we’ve been going there for several years. Usually they have a good selection of pre-cut trees but they told us last year they may be changing to cut your own. Which they did.

There was a nice selection of four or five varieties. It didn’t take us long to find a tree which was easily procured with our bow saw and a small pad to kneel on that they provided.

Rave: Panosian’s in downtown Elmira is a place I’m guilty of overlooking when I need shoes. But after being to three other places, including a newer, big-box boot store, I still couldn’t find what I wanted. Oh sure, they could order it for me, but then if I didn’t like the boots I have to return them and honestly, I have little tolerance for that kind of thing.

Last night it occurred to me to stop at Panosian’s after work and I’m glad I did. They have an excellent selection of name brand boots and a very helpful staff. I found exactly what I was looking for at an excellent price.

This is the only place I go for my shoes.
