September 11Sep 11 ATHENS — Eighth-graders at Harlan Rowe Middle School are learning about more than just writing and arithmetic this school year.Through the school’s Farm-to-Table program, students are raising Cornish birds for meat, pickling vegetables, pressing apples into cider and so much more.“I just love this class. It’s awesome,” said eighth-grader Evelyn Owen.A new Farm-to-Table class begins each quarter, with each session lasting roughly 45 days. Everything used in the program is either donated or purchased through student fundraising. At the end of the quarter, students will take what they’ve learned to host a harvest meal.Bidlack said the class’s Cornish birds will be taken to a third-party butcher at the end of the marking period before being returned to the classroom. September 11Sep 11 I think this is an outstanding idea. ECSD hit a home run when they started the clay shooting league. It makes me wonder if something like this would work locally.I can definitely see SVE doing it, though they already have FFA and a Outdoorsman Club, so maybe they do.
