July 28Jul 28 So they made the "new" law retroactive? They are just making laws to get what they want?

July 28Jul 28 The Office of Immigrant Trust 😂, they forgot to add “Illegal” (OIIT) to that new Bureau within the NYS Attorney General’s Office. Why is it so important so to protect illegal immigrants?

July 28Jul 28 It’s my understanding a lot of New York’s agricultural industry relies on undocumented immigrants. Now, I’m not here to parse statistics and data, to take it as anecdotal at best. But I have no trouble believing it.Honestly, if the worst they’ve done is cross the historically porous border illegally, I have no problem with those folks being here. They’re doing a job that an American citizen would want a “living wage” like $25/hr to do, along with full medical, dental, PTO and a 401k, to do.

I have several friends who are farmers and they apply for and get the required visa's for them to work here when needed

Nothings been done about it for decades other than to exploit them, one way or the other, by both sides of the political aisle.

So are the legal workers whose wages are suppressed by illegals who are willing to work at wages below subsistence levels. However, even "if" NYS has prevented all illegals from voting, a certain number of illegals (who are driving lower wages/benefits and burdening schools and social programs, etc) have given birth to American born children..... who are legal voters after their 18th birthdays.

The Federal Government is responsible for protecting and enforcing those existing laws. In my opinion, the States have no right interfering with that enforcement. If a local police agency arrests an individual and then finds they are illegal, ICE should be allowed to enforce Federal law. Other wise, when someone is arrested and it’s discovered they are a fugitive from another State, why hold them so that State can come get them. To me it’s the all the same.
July 28Jul 28 They’re here, that’s just the way it is and it’s been left unsolved by the federal government for decades. Hell, for longer than that.I’m not getting worked up over it now, nor by some half-wit politician yet again using it as an opportunity yet again for political pandering ( pick a side, they’re all the same ).

As a teenager in Iowa (when minimum wage was $3.35/hr) the local Youth Bureau would load us into school buses to spend our summers to spend the day doing field work. No medical. No dental. No PTO. No 401k. Just dozens upon dozens of high school kids lining up for a chance at earning $4.50 to $5/hr. Literally the reason that American schools have historically had schedules with "summer breaks" is so students are available for unskilled farm work. Even after I moved to NYS in the late 80s....I knew plenty of (legal, American, adult) citizens who were willing to pick up summer jobs tying grape vines at vineyards all around the Finger Lakes. Not as a career that offered full medical, dental, PTO and a 401k...but as part-time, seasonal work that provided extra spending money. But hey....if farmers can slide under the radar and pay illegals less than minimum wage....why do it legally?
July 29Jul 29 I was being facetious… sort of. As I said, what I know of the issue is anecdotal - I have no direct experience because the farm I worked at part-time hired local help. My buddy who worked for one of the vineyards in the mid-nineties had an entirely different experience.

Don’t get me wrong, I still come down on the side of having Seasonal Migrant Workers . But they should be required to have Paperwork to prove that status that separates them from Illegal Immigrants . I am also aware of much varying milage on the subject so…
