July 2Jul 2 ITHACA, N.Y — The Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival of Music & Dance will soon descend upon the Village of Trumansburg. The annual festival will run from July 16 through July 19, bringing bands from around the world and thousands of attendees to the Trumansburg Fairgrounds for an event that’s been compared to a new-age Woodstock and a large family reunion. At GrassRoots anything can happen. Sometimes, sunrise after parties materialize creekside at nearby Rabbit Run. One could fall in love, crash land on a stranger’s campsite or end up dancing on stage with world-class musicians. The festival will bring back acts by the legendary blues artist Taj Mahal, the beloved Keith Frank & The Soileau Zydeco Band, the Byrne Brothers and more.Source
July 3Jul 3 Someone “in the know” once told us they were going to recommend us for Grassroots but, like so many other interactions, it never came to be. I was disappointed only because it’s always great to play for huge crowds like that, especially in your own backyard. But I was also relieved to not have to deal with the logistics of getting in and out of there. We played with The Byrne Brothers in Buffalo a few years ago and they’re pretty good. The sons have practically had instruments in their hands since birth. They’ve had quite an explosion of popularity the past year or two.
July 6Jul 6 Over the years i have heard of this Festival but always described to me as more a Woodstock Junior type thing so never seemed my type of thing . Not the “ Rocky Top “ festivals which would have been more my style , just three days of wandering around the Site , sitting in , playing along with others of likeminded folks , making music and just enjoying the time . Too bad such places are so damn far away.
