I swear someone around here could skin puppies alive in Wisner Park and there’d be a group of people telling us that they’re not really bad, we have no right to judge or “we don’t know the whole story.”

Mind ur bidness and don't be judging when you don't knows the deal.

If you knew what them puppies had did to them, you'd unnerstand.

Wonder what kind of plea deal they offered that he refused.

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) — During Monday’s council meeting, the Elmira City Council voted to reject all bids to repair the elevators in the Centertown Parking Garage, which are currently not operational.

“We had to vote down the bids again because they came in over, so now it’ll go off to rebid,” said City of Elmira Mayor Daniel Mandell.

That was pretty much expected.

I'm not sure Elmira has figured out exactly how high prices have gone. It seems the bids they got were astronomical per their expectations which makes me wonder if any research went into it ahead of time. Those garage elevators should be fixed sooner rather than later if they want to get people into the city doing stuff.

My in-laws, who recently moved to Corning from Freeville, attended an event at the Clemens Center recently. They parked in the parking garage because it was close and easier to walk to the theater.

They will not be parking in the parking garage again.

If you want people to come downtown, you have to make people want to come there, yes, but want to come back.

Boy they are brave!

I went to Centertown Social last week to meet friends for dinner. I parked in the garage. Since I've parked in that garage for a great deal of my life I know exactly which door to take to get me where I want to go so an elevator was not a concern. I also know those elevators have been hit or miss since I worked at Newberrys (do the math on that one) and there have been people peeing in the stairwells for that long too. lol. This is not new at all, but yes it's time they got to work to fix things.

On our trip down the stairwell we encountered a gentleman smoking a joint. We said hi, he said hi, no problems.

Oh, and we enjoyed our dinner at Centertown. We threw them a bit because the person hosting emailed to make the reservation and they don't necessarily check emails for that so didn't know there were 12 of us coming. The GM took care of us personally because they had wait staff running in all the different sections.

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) — The Save A Lot in Elmira is closing its doors for good this Saturday, and some residents are starting to worry about how they will get their groceries.

“I am so, so very disappointed and very sad,” said Save A Lot employee Camara Ryan. “It almost feels like a heartbreak, like a relationship ending.”

Read the rest here.

I can’t help but wonder if it’s just more than rising grocery prices causing the closing of this Store. I don’t think the new owner had the Store for long.

I saw something on this a week or so ago and the person posting credited the owner with saying it was closing because of the new Snap benefit rules. He said he was losing 70K a month which I find to be a bit far fetched. Perhaps the owner exaggerated or maybe the poster misunderstood him but that sounds more like a yearly figure rather than monthly.

I also wonder why the change in SNAP would cause that kind of loss? These people still have to eat and it's still the cheapest around.

He didn't have it for long. A year or so maybe? Several comments said Jubilee was next because he owned that too but I do not believe the same person bought both stores. Jubilee owner just officially took over completely last week.

Someone listening to the scanner said they chased a fella who was seen running from the building. Do not know if it's true or not.

Saw another fella on the socials who is a complete idiot saying that it's impossible for homeless to be in there because it's all boarded up. LOL.

Impossible....sure.

Google images (from May 2026) show only the front first floor windows looked boarded. Around the back/side and upper floors all look accessible:

Yea and I'm pretty sure somewhere in all of their piles of stuff they have screwdrivers, hammers and whatever else they need to pry off boards.

Heck that place on S Main that they ended up knocking down had them pulling the boards off windows right there on the main drag.

He has a conspiracy theory that there are no homeless and that Elmira hires people to go burn down these places.
