On January 15 th, 2026 at approximately 9:51 PM Elmira Police Officers responded the 1100 block of Oak St. for a report of a gun shots. Upon arrival Officers located evidence of gun shots including multiple shell casings and broken glass. Officers located witnesses who advised that three males walked up to a dark colored sedan and as the sedan was attempt to leave the area at least one of the males began shooting at the vehicle striking the vehicle multiple times.

During the course of the investigation officers were able to identify the dark colored sedan and the driver of the sedan. Officers confirmed that no one was injured during the shooting.

Might just be a fluke but seems the witnesses are being more cooperative these days.

Damn … Oak Street be jumpin these days , and its not even Summertime!

If the whole point of Flock was so they could identify exactly who was in the vicinity at a specific time.....can't they locate witnesses themselves by interviewing whomever was driving near the gunshots at 5:26 on Sunday morning?

Are the gunshot detection system and the Flock cameras two separate things? I thought they were for some reason, but could very well be wrong.

I do think they’re separate systems.....but I feel like the camera system should provide data either way.

It shouldn’t matter whether the specific time & place of gunshots are identified by a Flock device or a human witness. Either way the camera system should be able to compile a list of nearby vehicles.

All of the vehicles within a few blocks at that precise time are potential witnesses. And if any of those vehicles were displaying suspicious behavior (at that time and that location), then they may also be potential suspects.

If the Flock cameras can't provide any more useful information than neighbors who 'din't se nuffin'......then what value do they provide?
