What is that?

I'm with you. No memory of ever seeing that thing. It's a bit disturbing

It was a vending machine that a kid puts a quarter in and the chicken lays and egg that comes out. There’s a prize inside.

i think it was in the lobby at pharmhouse or Hills, cannot remember 100%

Definitely Pharmhouse.

That would explain it. Never set foot in the place in my life.

Seems like people don’t have aquariums in their homes like they used to back in the 70’s and 80’s. Even Walmart was selling fish back in the day:

I remember other department stores had these too I think.

I also remember growing up Dad had one and then we had one for a couple of years when we first moved here. I admit, it was relaxing to watch the fish but it was just another thing taking up space. That and towards the end we had all sorts of issues with the water causing the fish to not lasting long.

We still have the tank and stand downstairs in the basement. Every once in a great while I think it’d be nice to have the relaxation of watching fish again but quickly get over it.

They used to be everywhere...from sales at department stores to prizes at travelling carnivals.

Live animals are a lot more strictly regulated in NYS than they used to be.

You could buy animals at Newberrys years ago. I remember when I was a kid about 7 or 8 my dad had to bring a spyder monkey home for the weekend because it couldn't be left in the store. Even after all these year I can remember what an asshole that monkey was. We lived in NJ at the time.

Okay yeah, that makes sense. I wonder if that hurt the aquarium hobby or if it was already dwindling.

80’s arcades were the best. I seem to remember there being a good one in Grand Central Plaza.

Roseland Park in Canandaguia had a really good one as well.

there was one close by where Aunt gail used to live in the heights

This picture is pretty much the 1970's all in one:

The only thing missing from that picture is one of these types of beer signs:

Which, by the way, I happen to think are cool as hell and would be yet another thing I’d collect if I ever won the lottery.
