November 2Nov 2 The Seneca Nation is accusing the Salamanca Police Chief and Cattaraugus County District Attorney of discussing possible actions that, Nation Leaders say, would violate their sovereignty. At issue are the Senecas’ desires to evict suspected drug traffickers and users from Nation land. November 3Nov 3 And as we’ve seen in the past, things can get a little sporty out there when you piss them off.
November 3Nov 3 I don’t think there's any amount of “land acknowledgements” that are any substitute for their sovereignty to control what little pieces of land we claim to have returned. If we think we should be telling them what they can or can’t do on that land. If they can be arrested and incarcerated for not obeying us.....then are we really treating them any better than General Sullivan treated their ancestors? Edited November 3Nov 3 by MsKreed
November 5Nov 5 It’s gotta get a little sticky at times because, as far as I know, the city of Salamanca sits on tribal land but is leased to the U.S. ( or that’s how I’ve always understood it ).If that be the case, jurisdiction must get confusing, particularly when dealing with non-Seneca citizens.
