Featured Replies

The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office announces the arrest of 48 year old Brian J. Rought of Towanda for Attempted Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a Class E Felony.

According to Sheriff William Schrom, on July 12, 2023, at or around 9:48 A.M., the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol Division was dispatched to Glider City Cycles in the Town of Southport, for a report of a larceny.

The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division assisted with the investigation. It was determined that ROUGHT had purchased two motorcycles valued at $11,388.00. Rought provided Glider City Cycles with a signed check for the sum of the two motorcycles. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the account used on the personal check only had $1.73, which caused the personal check to bounce for insufficient funds.

As a result of the investigation, and after his release from Pennsylvania State Prison, Rought was arrested for Attempted Grand Larceny in the Third Degree. He was issued an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Southport Court at a later date.

The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Probation Department.

I wonder if it was “attempted” because the check bounced before he took the motorcycles?

LOL!

Really , they accepted a check for that amount ! “ After Further Investigation “ they found insufficient funds to cover the check ? Excuse me for finding this a bit comical but c’mon the check was accepted… how many of us would even think of writing a check for that kind of a purchase ,much less be on the flip side and being the one to accept it ! At any rate i will say that I’m happy the perp was caught !
