In a post on social media over the weekend, Yales Music Shop in Athens announced that the store will not be reopening. This comes after a late night crash in which a stolen school bus crashed through the wall of the store in May. New York State Police report that they have arrested 29 year old Estefan D. Henriquez of Massachusetts, following an investigation into the online exploitation of minors. State Police say through an ongoing investigation, Troopers determined that Henriquez had engaged in sexually explicit communications with a 14-year-old female in Steuben County and made arrangements to travel from Massachusetts to meet with her. Investigators learned that Henriquez had previously met the victim in person and had sent numerous sexually explicit messages through a social media platform in the days leading up to his arrest. One person is dead after a shooting that happened Friday afternoon in Bradford County Police say at about 3:30 PM a 911 call came in for a report of gunshots on Vista Drive in Athens. When police arrived on scene they found a man laying inside the home. EMS were were brought in and the man was taken to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre where he died from his wounds. A Steuben County Man is facing several charges for allegedly receiving public assistance benefits under false pretenses. Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on October 2, 2025, Investigators of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested 54 year old James C. Brutsman of Cameron. Allard says that from October 2024 to September of this year Brutsman offered a false instrument for filing to the Steuben County Department of Social Services and received benefits from the Steuben County Department of Social Services in the amount of $3,374.00 that he was not eligible to receive. Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that at about 11:15am on September 30, 2025, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a missing three-year-old child on County Route 16 in Urbana, New York. It was reported that the child left the home, possibly following a puppy. The Sheriff’s Office, along with the New York State Police, began investigating the report. Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that happened earlier today in Schuyler County. At approximately 11:46 a.m., the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on County Road # 1 in the Town of Hector, NY. Deputies arrived on scene and located a 2010 Ford Fusion that failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway and struck some trees. The driver of the vehicle, 18-year-old Michael Blake of Ithaca New York was taken by helicopter to Upstate Medical for treatment of his injuries.
