Elmira Man Arrested After Reports Of Gunfire On Grove Street **UPDATED**

On Thursday, July 26, 2018, at approximately 10:35 AM, officers from the Elmira Police Department responded to the 100 block of Grove St. for a report of a shooting.  Responding officers were advised there was possibly one victim.  When officers arrived on scene, there was no evidence of anyone being injured and no victims were located.

Officers and Investigators began to conduct an investigation into this shooting and several people were interviewed.  Based on these interviews, it was determined that an individual approached another person in the area and began to fire shots at him.  The person being shot at then began to return fire.  One suspect ran north on Grove St. and the other ran west between residences. 

The suspect that ran north was described as a black male wearing blue shorts and a blue sweatshirt and a white do-rag.  The suspect who ran west between the residences was described as a black male who was wearing a white t-shirt.

Officers located one of these suspects near a residence on Grove St. where he was taken into custody.  A firearm and other evidence was recovered near the scene of the shooting.  As a result of this investigation, Tarell L Calafell, a 27 year old male from Elmira, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd, a class C Violent Felony Offense.  Tarell is currently being held in the Elmira City Lockup awaiting arraignment.  The Elmira Police Department was assisted at the scene by the New York State Police, West Elmira PD and the Chemung County District Attorney’s Office.

Police say the second suspect has been identified as Saad A Wyche, a 37 year old male from Elmira.

Wyche was stopped in a vehicle earlier today ( Friday ) and brought to the Detective Bureau to be interviewed.  Based on the investigation into this shooting, Wyche was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd, a class C Violent Felony Offense. 

Wyche was arraigned in Elmira City Court and remanded to the Chemung County Jail
