Elmira Police Investigate Shooting On Johnson Street

Recommended Posts

Early this morning at approximately 2:50 AM, officers from the Elmira Police Department responded to a residence on the 800 block of Johnson St. for a report of a shooting.  Responding officers were advised that one person had suffered a single gunshot wound.  Officers arrived on scene and located the person who had been shot.  This person was transported to a local hospital for treatment of what police say was a non life threatening injury.

The person who was shot spoke with officers and told them that two people entered his residence, one of them armed with a handgun.  He was struck in the head with the gun and then shot as he tried to run away.  The two people then fled the residence.  A search warrant was executed at the residence as a result of the shooting and evidence was recovered from the scene.  The Elmira Police Department believes that the individuals involved knew each other and that the general public is not in danger.

The investigation into this matter continues.  The Elmira Police Department is asking any witnesses or anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the Elmira Police Department at (607)737-5626, or the tip line at (607)271-HALT.
