Elmira Woman Arrested For Fatal 2017 Crash

On April 14, 2017, at 5:55 P.M., the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to West Hill Road in the Town of Elmira for a report of a motor vehicle collision with injuries. A 2004 Honda Pilot operated by 32 year old Omayra Martin of Elmira,  was traveling east on West Hill Road, when the driver lost control and exited the north shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle entered a ditch, struck a tree, overturned, and came 
to rest on its roof. 

As a result of the collision, Martin and five juvenile passengers were transported to local hospitals with injuries. Three of those juvenile passengers were air lifted to trauma 
centers with life threatening injuries. One passenger, 15 year old Alishia Butler of Elmira, was pronounced deceased at the scene.


The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and Accident Reconstruction Team investigated the incident and announce the arrest of Martin. Police say she has 
been charged with Criminally Negligent Homicide, a Class E Felony, Assault in the Third Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, both Class A Misdemeanors.

Martin is being held in the Chemung County Jail pending her arraignment in 
Chemung County Court.

this happened right out in front of the house i grew up in.  i also heard the back story on what may have caused it....a very tragic situation.
