Police Investigate Gun Shots On Elmira's Southside

Recommended Posts

Police are investigating reported gunfire that occurred overnight on Elmira's Southside.

This morning at approximately 12:35 AM, officers from the Elmira Police Department responded to area of the Mount Zoar St. and West Av. for a report of gunshots.  Comm Center advised responding officers that they had received several calls reporting multiple gunshots.

The first officers on scene began to interview potential witnesses.  Officers were directed to a vehicle parked in the 300 block of West Av.  Officers found this vehicle had been struck more than once by bullets.  A residence in the area was also found to have a bullet hole.  Witnesses reported seeing people fleeing from this vehicle before and after the report of gunshots.  It is not believed that anyone was injured by gunfire.  No suspects have been located at this time.

While investigating this shooting, officers located another gun inside of the fenced in patio area of the Field House bar.  This gun was fully loaded and not believed to have been involved in the original shots fired call.  It was determined that this gun had previously been reported stolen to NYSP Horseheads.

The investigation into this matter continues.  The Elmira Police Department is asking any witnesses or anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the Elmira Police Department at (607)737-5626, or the tip line at (607)271-HALT.

There's no previous reference to finding a first weapon - just gunshots and bullet holes.
