Two Teens Arrested For String Of Burglaries & Robberies In Elmira

Over a one-week period, Officers from the Elmira Police Department handled several burglary and robbery investigations.  Two of the burglaries were of residences and there were three robberies during which property and money were stolen.

The first robbery occurred on May 15th. An individual reported that two teens threatened him and stole a pair of sneakers from him.  The second robbery occurred in the early morning hours of May 18th.  The victim was attacked on Baldwin St., north of Wegmans, and his cell phone and money were taken.  The victim was transported to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Later in the morning, a resident in the 1000 block of N. Main St. reported that their home had been burglarized and property stolen from within the residence sometime during the night.  

On the evening of May 20th, Officers from the Elmira Police Department responded to the area of Division and Hall St. for a robbery that had just taken place.  In this incident, the victim reported that his vape pen and cell phone were stolen. No suspects were located at that time.

In the early morning hours of May 21st, Officers from the Elmira Police Department responded to a residence in the 500 block of Riverside Av. for a report of a burglary that had just taken place.  The homeowner provided officers with video footage that showed the suspects.

Later in the morning, one of the suspects turned himself in to the Elmira Police.  This was a 14 year male. This suspect was interviewed and admitted to being involved in all of these reported crimes. A second suspect, a 17 year old male, was identified during this investigation. This suspect was interviewed and admitted his involvement in all of these crimes.

Evidence and property was recovered from each crime.  The 14 year old has been charged in Family Court with Burglary 2nd.  The 17 year old has been charged in Elmira City Court with Robbery 2nd.  Further charges against both are pending.  Due to the ages of the suspects, no names will be released.
