A candidate has come forward to run for Chemung County's 4th Legislative District.

Democrat Ed Bond announced his candidacy this week, and will challenge incumbent Joe Brennan, a Republican. The 4th legislative district includes parts of the towns of Big Flats and Horseheads.

According to his website, Bond spent 25 years in journalism, and says he believes in fiscal transparency and open government.

"I met a lot of people who made a difference in the world," he writes. "They taught me that democracy works if ordinary people are willing to step up, get involved and work together to find solutions to problems."

“If you want to ensure openness in government, improved communication and have a representative willing to listen to people, elect a former reporter,” Bond said.
