Chemung County legislator Peggy Woodard, a Republican, plans to seek re-election this fall.

Woodard represents the 8th District, which includes the Village of Elmira Heights and parts of the City of Elmira, and the towns of Horseheads and Elmira. Woodard was appointed to fill the position to replace her late husband, Daniel, in 2005 and has been elected to the seat since then.

She faces a primary challenge from businessman Frank Cicci, who ran unsuccessfully for the seat in 2014.

Woodard chairs the legislature's multi-services committee and also serves on the budget and aviation committees. She chairs the Chemung County Sewer and Water District No. 1, and is secretary of the board for First Heritage Credit Union. Woodard is also involved in other volunteer positions in the county.
