At an event held on Saturday at Guiseppe's in Horseheads, 4th District Legislator Joe Brennan announced he will seek re-election.

The 4th District is made up of the Towns of Horseheads, Big Flats, and the Village of Horseheads. Brennan, a 2000 graduate of Horseheads High School, was first elected in 2006.

After a couple guest speakers, Brennan spoke about the problems facing the county before switching gears and discussed the way the county government runs, which Brennan called "flawed" and saying county legislators are "powerless". This sentiment has been echoed by several others seeking election this November, saying the County Executive has too much control over the agenda set before the legislature.

Issues with how the county is run seems to be a common theme among just about everyone running, incumbents and challengers. Maybe we'll actually see some changes.

One thing's for sure, this is going to be one hell of an election cycle for local politics.
