Police Investigating Fatal House Fire In Elmira

Police have released more details pertaining to a fire that happened Saturday night in the City Of Elmira. 

According to Elmira Police, at approximately 11:00 PM, officers responded to a residence on Home St. for a report of a structure fire.  Comm Center advised responding officers that people were trapped inside of the residence. 

The first officers on scene discovered a working structure fire.  The Elmira Fire Department arrived on scene and took immediate action.  Contrary to prior reports, the fire was quickly brought under control and access was gained to the residence to render aid to the trapped persons.  Once the fire was under control, three people were removed from the residence and transported to Arnot Ogden Hospital.  All three died as a result of the fire.  The deceased have been identified as two children, ages 5 and 6, and their 29 year old father.

Chemung County Emergency Management and New York State Fire Investigators responded to the scene to conduct an investigation.  This part of the investigation continued into the morning hours.

So sad, I particularly feel bad for the surviving children.
