Former Elmira Police Chief Scott Drake has announced he will run for a seat on the Chemung County Legislature.

Drake, who retired in 2011 after 24 years with the Elmira Police Department, is running as a Republican and Conservative in the 13th District, which includes parts of the City of Elmira and Town of Southport.

Incumbent 13th District legislator Richard Madl, also a Republican, has yet to announce if he will run for re-election.

Drake serves as a member of a bipartisan group that works on solutions to issues currently facing the City of Elmira. He is also a board member of the Arctic League and past member of the City of Elmira Historical Review Committee.

Drake's goals include addressing quality-of-life issues such as crime and code enforcement, improved communications between the county and its municipalities, and review of the current sales tax distribution formula.
