Early Thursday morning, January 4, 2018, Troy firefighters responded to a house fire that broke out just after 3:00AM in Columbia Township, which is located in Bradford County, PA.

Troy fire personnel were first on scene shortly after 3:30AM. The two-story home located at 2730 Austinville Road was already on fire at their arrival. Troy fire personnel requested additional assistance at that time. Fire crews from Troy, Canton, and South Creek battled the stubborn blaze and the frigid cold. Later units from Mansfield and Daggett were dispatched for additional man power and units to assist with the fire.

FNN was told that a water source was set up at Sugar Branch Lake which was approximately 10 minutes away from the house fire.

The homeowners were reported to be outside the burning structure when fire personnel arrived on scene. Gary and Donna Eddy, who are both in their late 50's, had safely escaped their home, but sadly the couple watched their years of hard work destroyed by the fast moving flames.

FNN was told the couple's pets, a cat and a goldfish had also been safely removed from the home.

According to family members, the cause of the fire was due to a chimney fire, which spread rapidly through the couple's home.

It took firefighters approximately 5 hours to extinguish the flames, which clearly destroyed the home.

Family members, friends and complete strangers are pulling together to try and help the couple that lost everything in this morning's fire. Denise Brown, who is collecting donations at the Troy Area High School office, reported that clothes are needed for the couple. The items needed are women's size 2XL shirts, 16-18 pants and size 8W shoes are being collected for Donna Eddy. While men's size 1XL shirts, 40x32 size pants and size 11 shoes are needed for Gary Eddy. The Austinville Church is said to be another place that donations may be accepted. Their number is (570) 297-4780 if you wish to help. For those who wish to assist the family in other ways, the family could use gift cards to purchase other items they may need at this time. Donations can also be sent to 2730 Austinville Road, Troy, Pa 16947.

The couple was said to have insurance on their home, but in most cases a claim does not cover all that is lost in a fire.

Family members told FNN how thankful they are for the firefighters who dealt the stubborn fire and the frigid temperatures. The family also wishes to thank the American Red Cross and everyone who has assisted the Eddy family during this heartbreaking time.

The start of the new year, has already been a hard one for the Eddy family, but with a little help from a lot of people, the 2018 year ahead can still be a bright one for the couple.

FNN extends a thanks to our readers who alerted us about this fire. Also special thanks to members of the Eddy family for providing the information on how to best assist the couple during this time.

Prayers have been requested for the family as they begin to rebuild their lives in the new year.
