Disabled Vehicle Leads To New Jersey Woman Arrested On Multiple Charges

The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office announces the arrest of 21 year old Krissean L. Smith-Newhart of Jersey City, NJ.

Police say on Sunday at approximately 8:00 P.M., deputies were dispatched to I-86 in the Town of Elmira for a disabled vehicle. After a short investigation it was learned that Smith-Newhart provided a false name to deputies and she did not have a valid driver’s license. Deputies also learned she was wanted in Harris County, Texas for assault and that the vehicle she was operating was stolen out of Wilkes Barre, PA. 

Smith-Newhart was arrested for several charges, including Unlicensed Operation of a Vehicle, False Impersonation and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fourth degree, a Felony. She was arraigned in the Town of Elmira Court and remanded to the Chemung County Jail in-lieu of $10,000 cash, $20,000 property bond.
