Recommended Posts

Earlier today, the Chemung County Sheriff's Office arrested 65 year old Walter G. Connor Jr, of Elmira and charged him with Criminal Nuisance in the Second Degree.

Police say this morning at approximately 7:45 A.M., deputies were dispatched to Holdridge Street, in the Town of Southport, for a report of an irate male subject with a long rifle.

Deputies arrived to find Connor, with a loaded rifle, and were informed by witnesses that he had threatened to shoot a stray dog that was attacking a neighbor’s chickens. Concerned neighbors had contacted 911 after observing him with the rifle, noting there were numerous children in the area walking to school. Furthermore, as Deputies were arriving at the scene, a school bus was observed picking up children less than a block away from where Connor was located.

School officials from the Elmira City School District were contacted by the Sheriff’s Office and kept appraised of the incident. No delays or lockdowns were placed into effect.

Connor received an appearance ticket to appear to in Southport Town Court at a later date. The investigation is continuing at this time.
