DPW Announces Fall Work Program For City Streets

Recommended Posts

The City of Elmira Department of Public Works (DPW) announced today its fall work program for City streets. The DPW intends to mill streets the week of September 10-14. Restoration work will occur in September and October, with final paving slated for late October. Mill and Fill road projects typically remove the top 2-3 inches of asphalt and replace it with a new asphalt wearing course.

Mill and Fill roads have 10 years added to their life with routine maintenance, according to Senior Engineer Craig Southard .

The following streets will be milled and paved this fall in the order listed:

  1. Hoffman Street, from W. Clinton Street to W. Washington Avenue.

  2. Washington Avenue, from Davis Street to the Clemens Center Parkway

  3. William Street, from E. Church Street to E. 5th Street, including new concrete curbing

  4. Intersection of E. Church Street and Judson Street

  5. Carpenter Street, from Oak Street to Sullivan Street, including new asphalt curbing

  6. Lyon Street, from Broadway to Collins Street, including new asphalt curbing

Preliminary work is already underway at several locations. Our planned work is subject to change based on weather and contracted equipment availability.

The DPW reminds motorists to drive carefully through work zones, and allow extra time to reach your destination.

Please call the DPW at (607) 737-5750 with any questions.
