An Elmira man was arrested on Thursday after police say he was threatening his neighbors with a weapon.
Around eight a.m., Elmira Police responded to the 300 block of Lorenzo Place. When officers arrived they found a man still holding what was described as a sickle style knife on the sidewalk. Police ordered him to drop the weapon several times, but he refused to comply.
After about ten minutes, back up arrived and officered deployed tasers, which caused the man to fall to the ground and drop the knife. He was then taken into custody.
As a result, police charged 35 year old Jose E. Matos of Elmira with Second Degree Menacing 2nd and Obstructing Governmental Administration, both Class A Misdemeanors.
Matos was held in city lock up and arraigned in Elmira City Court later in the day.
