Elmira Police Respond To Gunshots, 15 Year Old Injured

ELMIRA – On Monday afternoon at around 3:20 pm, Elmira Police were called to the area of the 200 block of Franklin Street for a report of several people firing guns in the street. 

As police responded, they were advised by reports from numerous witnesses about the people in the area and vehicles seen leaving the scene. When officers arrived, they found evidence of the shooting. Meanwhile, other officers located two vehicles reportedly involved several blocks away. At that time, a 15 year old female was found with a non-life threatening gun shot wound. The girl was taken to a local hospital for treatment. 

Police interviews multiple people and a search warrant was executed at a residence on Franklin Street. There, police found more than a dozen spent shell casings fired from multiple weapons, as well as a semi-automatic handgun. 

Police believe all those involved were known to each other and the the shooting was not a random act of violence. There have been no arrests made as of yet, but police say charges may be filed in the future.
