At a press conference held yesterday, Elmira Pioneers owner Robbie Nichols announced that thirteen players who have graduated from schools here in the region have been added to the team’s roster. Nichols says this is the first time in the team’s history.
The players are from Troy, Corning-Painted Post, Horseheads High, Arkport, Sayre, Union-Endicott and more.
Elmira High school graduates Zack and Max Odum, twin brothers from Lowman, both said they are excited to be a part of the team.
“I’ve been going to Pioneers games my whole life,” said Max, who is currently attending and playing baseball for Wells College, as is his brother. “I’m glad to be on the field now.”
“That is huge news,” Nichols said. “Never before has there been thirteen of our very own here at historic Dunn Field. We’re so excited about that.”
Elmira City Manager Michael Collins was also on hand to announce the city will be investing about $450,000 in ARP funding that will be going into structural repair and other necessary upgrades to the stadium.
The Pioneers home opener is scheduled for June 3rd.
